Back to Bola Creek – a Look for Fungi – 25 February 2016

Digi Dave was keen to head back to Royal National Park for a photo trip, and I suggested it might be worth a look at Bola Creek.

So we headed down the road from Waterfall and parked and then walk down Lady Carrington Drive to Bola Creek. We spent a fair bit of time around the picnic area looking for fungi – but very little was out.

This was also the case as we walked up Bola Creek up to to the Bola Gully crossing. Virtually no fungi was out. This is not surprising perhaps given the hot dry weather we have had recently.

The most interesting thing I saw was a large bird sitting in a tree on the other side of the creek. It was later identified by a Facebook friend as a juvenile Collared Sparrowhawk. Unfortunately I was not able to get a good photo of it.

I’d call your accipter a Brown Goshawk based on the heavy-browed look & tail shape – but they are difficult to separate and the photo isn’t great (unlike the others!)
